Why mindfulness?
Chances are, if you're like most of us, in the tumult of your everyday life you often find yourself lost in negative evaluations of your past or anxious about your future. You may feel that you're constantly on-the-go, with little time or space to pursue what's meaningful to you, leaving you feeling frazzled or burnt out. Fortunately, there are practices that can help! One of the most effective is the practice of mindfulness.
Mindful awareness can be defined as "paying attention to present moment experiences with openness, curiosity, and a willingness to be with what is." It is an excellent antidote to the stresses of modern times. It invites us to stop, breathe, observe, and connect with one's inner experience.
Mindfulness renders measurable benefits such as:
- Reduce stress, depression and anxiety
- Manage physical pain
- Increase clarity of mind and balance
- Improve problem-solving and decision-making capability
- Sleep better
- Improve memory
- Decrease emotional reactivity and negative thought patterns
- Have deeper levels of self-acceptance
- Have a richer and deeper experience of day-to-day life
